For the access points to be manageable by the WLAN controller they must know the IP address of the WLAN controller. So in addition to the required basic network settings such as device IP address, default gateway and nameserver, the DHCP server needs to provide the access point with the IP address of the WLAN controller. This is done via option 138 of the DHCP protocol.
