Date: 10/27/00 ________________________________________________________________________________ This Readme describes the changes and bugfixes contained in system software Release 5. 2 .1 patch 1. For upgrading your system software, please refer to your User's Guide and the Release Notes for the system software Release 5.2.1. ________________________________________________________________________________ This patch contains the following changes and bugfixes: 1. RADIUS Products: BIANCA/BRICK-XL, BIANCA/BRICK-XL2, BIANCA/BRICK-XMP, BIANCA/BRICK-XM2, BIANCA/BRICK-XS2 – Rebooting problems due to memory leak If incoming PPP calls were authenticated via Radius, a certain amount of memory was lost proportional to the number of connections, causing the BinTec router to reboot. This bug has been fixed. – FRAMED-IP-ADDRESS For Radius accounting the new attribute FRAMED-IP-ADDRESS was not sent with system software Release 5.2.1 as described in the Release Notes. This bug has been fixed. 2. DNS PROXY Products: BIANCA/BRICK-XL, BIANCA/BRICK-XL2, BIANCA/BRICK-XMP, BIANCA/BRICK-XM2, BIANCA/BRICK-XS2, BINGO! – Unwanted connections with PCs running Windows 2000 PCs in your network running Windows 2000 often send DNS requests of the type SRV. Since these requests are answered negatively most of the time, the DNS Proxy should have prevented those unwanted connections. However, these connections were established and the negative entries of the DNS Proxy didn't work. This bug has been fixed. Dynamic negative DNS Proxy entries prevent unwanted connections now. If the negative dynamic cache of the DNS Proxy is enabled (field "Negative Cache" in the "IP" -> "DNS" menu), these unwanted connections are prevented automatically by dynamic negative entries. After the expiration of the TTL (default value is one day; to be configured in the "IP" -> "DNS" -> "Advanced Settings" menu), the dynamic entries are deleted. After the deletion of a dynamic negative entry, a new connection is established with a request of the Windows 2000 PC. The request itself generates a negative cache entry if the request is answered negatively. Further connections are being avoided during the TTL. If these one-time connections are also to be prevented, the corresponding dynamic entry in the "IP" -> "DNS" -> "Dynamic cache" menu has to be set to static. 3. FRAME RELAY Products: BIANCA/BRICK-XL, BIANCA/BRICK-XL2, BIANCA/BRICK-XMP, BIANCA/BRICK-XM2, BIANCA/BRICK-XS2 – Frame Relay works again with system software Release 5.2.1 patch 1 – Frame Relay Data Units In point-to-point connections, Frame Relay data units were incorrectly coded and discarded by the receiving side. This bug has been fixed. 4. PPP Products: BIANCA/BRICK-XL, BIANCA/BRICK-XL2, BIANCA/BRICK-XMP, BIANCA/BRICK-XM2, BIANCA/BRICK-XS2 – PPP authentication for leased lines is now available. ________________________________________________________________________________ BinTec Communications AG
